SPAR has sold its Swiss operations to Tannenwald for R1bn, with potential earn-outs of up to R660m by 2027 to reduce debt. The buyer took over the Swiss debt, but SPAR had to inject R683m to settle legacy liabilities & a competition fine. SPAR impaired the Swiss business by R3bn in May 2025. The grocery retailer will now focus on its core regions of SA & Southern Africa, Poland, & Ireland.
