Sasol Oil and TotalEnergies won a High Court judgment against Transnet on 18 June 2024, ordering Transnet to pay Sasol R3.9 bn plus interest, but Transnet’s appeal had suspended the payment. In August 2024, Transnet sought to recover R855m from Sasol Oil in a separate High Court case, with the judgment still pending. On 18 May 2025, Sasol and Transnet settled all disputes, with Transnet agreeing to pay Sasol a net amount of R4.3bn (~9% of its market cap) by 30 June 2025.
